The word
"chakra" comes from the Sanskrit language meaning
"wheel" and
refers to the subtle energy centers on the body. The
origin of Sanskrit is unknown and is believed by some
to be one of the Earth's oldest languages, thought to
have been divinely given, with each letter and its
corresponding sound relating to an aspect of human
nature.
It is
usually accepted that there are 7 major chakras going from the
base of the spine to the top of the head. Each chakra is
described in terms of color, emotion, sound, etc. so, for example,
the base chakra is related to the color red, to instinct and
survival and to the earth element, and to the sound of
'LAM'.
The
quality of the flow of energy through our chakras is
influenced and demonstrated by how we relate to
others, ourselves, and the world around us.
Surrounding ourselves with certain colors, stones,
and scents can have a balancing effect on these energy
centers, thus allowing an increase of well-being in
body, mind and soul. |
